Linux Essential Commands

1. apt-cdrom add (add cd rom for installation sources)

2. ifconfig (to view the pc network setting/ config)

3. ssh root@ip to access ssh (i.e. ssh root@ and put password of root)

4. ping and to break ping press CTRL+Z

5. apt-get  install synaptic (install/ uninstall applications/ packages)

6. reboot to restart

7. clear to clear screen

8. CTRL+ALT+F1 to go to command line

9. CTRL_ALT+F7 to go to graphical mode

10. apt-get install ****  to install application/package

11.  Access Identifier:

12. touch  smtpd.key: touch is used to create a file in a current directory (cd /home):

select/ browse a directory and change access mode: chmod 600 smtpd.key      or  chmod  777  /var/www

13. open a file to edit:  nano  /etc/apt/sources.list (to save: CTRL+O to exit CTRL+X)

14. install telnet: apt-get install telnet

15. clear, clearscr

16. apt-cdrom add

17. apt-get update

18. export http_proxy=  (use this command to apt-get update if you use proxy)

19. stop and start mysql: /etc/init.d/mysql stop      and /etc/init.d/mysql start

20. restart service: service  apache2 restart

21. MySql configuration file:  /etc/my.cnf   or   /etc/mysql/my.cnf

22. Disable default innodb of mysql (5.5+):  to  /etc/mysql/my.cnf

under [mysqld] section write:    innodb =OFF or skip-innodb

default-storage-engine = MyISAM

save and restart service

23. MySql help:  mysqld  — help  –verbose | grep have_innodb
